Job summary

HDR's Building Engineering group is seeking a Fire Alarm Design professional to create plan designs within BIM. You will integrate Revit models, apply NFPA criteria, and generate contract documents from BIM output, coordinating with engineers and architects.

The role requires strong communication, multi‑discipline collaboration, and a readiness to travel to project sites as needed, with opportunities to help advance the FLS team nationwide.

Qualifications

  • NFPA/ICC certifications or related credentials.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
  • Familiar with Fire & Life Safety design principles.

The Building Engineering Services Group develops critical infrastructure for the digital age, including high-performance data centers, commercial environments, and other advanced facilities. Primary Responsibilities
  • Create fire alarm system designs in a BIM model using provided design information, sketches, diagrams, and calculations.
  • Generate contract documents from the BIM model and perform additional BIM tasks as outlined in the BIM Planning documents.
  • Integrate design analysis software and analysis models/data with Revit (plus).
  • Apply NFPA and industry standards to fire alarm system design criteria.
  • Demonstrate solid multi‑discipline facility design experience, understanding project development from concept through construction and the interaction of discipline designs.
  • Work effectively with engineers and architects with minimal oversight.
  • Lead coordination between multiple consultants, disciplines, and project team members.
  • Use excellent verbal and written communication skills throughout coordination and documentation.
  • Familiarity with applicable codes, Fire and Life Safety (FLS) design criteria, materials, BIM model integration, specification editing, shop drawing review, CPRs, and RFIs (plus).
  • Engage with internal and external clients as required, including occasional travel.
  • Assist in continual improvement of drafting and production standards.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least two years’ experience in fire alarm design with related facility design exposure.
  • NICET certification or Bachelor of Sciences degree.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk products, especially Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and PDF creation tools (Bluebeam, Adobe).
  • Commitment to participation in an employee‑owned culture.

Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree in a related field or a High School diploma with relevant education and experience.
  • Entry‑level NFPA, ICC certifications or other specialized credentials related to Fire & Life Safety.
  • Strong computer skills using AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
  • Specialty software experience specific to the design area.
  • Commitment to active participation in an employee‑owned culture.
