Job summary

HDR, Inc. is seeking a Fire & Life Safety (FLS) Intern to gain real-world experience in designing and reviewing fire protection systems across market sectors.

You will work under the guidance of experienced engineers to assist calculations, drawings, and code research while engaging with mentoring programs for recent graduates within HDR’s employee-owned culture. Ideal candidates are enrolled in an engineering program, demonstrate attention to detail, and can apply basic Microsoft Office tools.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program.
• Proven attention to detail and strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Basic Microsoft Office skills.

Responsibilities

• Gain real-world experience on exciting projects by applying engineering techniques to support the design and review of fire protection and life safety systems.
• Assist with engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, code research, and other project documentation related to fire protection and life safety systems.
• Work under the guidance of a Professional Fire Protection Engineer and other experienced Fire & Life Safety professionals.
• Connect with recent graduates and company leaders through mentoring programs and young professionals' initiatives.
• Perform other duties as needed.

In the role of a Fire & Life Safety (FLS) Intern, we'll count on you to:

• Gain real-world experience on exciting projects by applying standard engineering techniques and procedures to support the design and review of fire protection and life safety systems for a variety of market sectors and clients.
• Assist with engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, code research, and other project documentation related to fire protection and life safety systems.
• Work under the guidance and direct supervision of a Professional Fire Protection Engineer and other experienced Fire & Life Safety professionals.
• Connect with recent college graduates and our company leaders through mentoring and young professionals' programs
• Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Prefer 2+ years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA
• Interest in fire protection and life safety design, including fire suppression and fire alarm systems.
• Pursuit of a degree in fire protection engineering, mechanical engineering, architectural engineering, or a related engineering program is preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry
• Preference given to local candidates.
