Job summary

The University of Michigan is seeking a Fire, Safety, and Health Building Inspector to perform regular visual inspections of Student Life Facilities, including residential housing and dining spaces. You will ensure compliance with fire and life safety codes, document conditions, and coordinate with EHS and campus partners to resolve issues.

Responsibilities include leading inspections, managing repairs, performing health and safety reviews, and educating residents.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent with 8 years of facilities/inspection experience.
  • Minimum 5 years in facilities, building or fire inspection roles.
  • Knowledge of building maintenance, fire safety and code interpretation.
  • CF-1 or 8 years of equivalent Fire Safety experience.
  • Ability to work legally in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Lead inspections to identify life safety risks and policy violations.
  • Manage and track repairs identified during inspections and verify completion.
  • Coordinate with EHS on fire safety topics and safety education for residents.
  • Program management for fire protection systems and reporting.
  • Perform health and safety inspections and document findings in databases.
  • Generate reports and support budget planning for safety programs.
  • Engage with residents and staff to promote risk reduction.
