Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Fire Science or Building Inspection Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• One year of related experience, including fire code, building code, or Firefighter experience.
• Valid Driver's license to operate City vehicles.
• Minnesota State Fire Inspector I or ICC Fire Inspector I certification within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Inspect buildings to identify fire hazards and determine code compliance for permits, renewals and licenses.
• Perform fire and life safety inspections of structures for construction, occupancy, and exposures.
• Investigate complaints and nuisance conditions to initiate resolution and records.
• Re-inspect buildings for code compliance and initiate penalties when needed.
• Identify applicable codes and standards for fire protection and life safety issues.
• Maintain daily communications with supervisor and staff; respond to inquiries timely.
• Document inspections and prepare related letters and reports.
