Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Full-Time Consultant - Fire and Life Safety Engineering in the United States with 3–5 years of experience. The role focuses on smoke and egress modeling using FDS, CONTAM, and Pathfinder, as well as performance-based design and smoke control analyses.

The position requires proficiency in building and fire codes (IBC, NFPA, UFC) and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to clients and regulatory authorities. Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master of Science Degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
• Experience with FDS, CONTAM, and Pathfinder modeling.
• EIT or FE Certification.
• Proven experience (3 - 5 years) in the fire protection and life safety industry.
• A deep understanding of Building and Fire Codes, Standards, and Regulations (IBC, NFPA, UFC, OBO, etc).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with clients, project teams, and regulatory authorities. The ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.
• Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform computer fire modeling tasks, including engineering evaluations of performance-based design alternatives and CFD analysis for smoke control.
• Perform computer egress analysis for projects.
• Interface with other WSP team members, clients and Building/Fire Officials.
• Provide expert technical guidance to ensure compliance with industry standards and codes.
• Drive continuous improvement in design methodologies and technological advancements in fire protection.
• Stay current with building and fire codes and regulations (IBC, NFPA, UFC).
