Our Fire & Life Safety Directors support Harvard Protection in our goal of providing best-in-class security and life safety services. Our FSDs are responsible for delivering professional, customer-focused security and life safety services for the people, property, and staff they serve and lead.

Responsibilities

  1. Serve as a true leader within the team
  2. Maintain a professional demeanor while leading staff and assisting customers, employees, visitors, and guests
  3. Maintain a visible presence within the assigned facility or building
  4. Monitor the environment to detect suspicious or unsafe activity
  5. Become familiar with incoming and outgoing traffic, and know the customers, tenants, visitors, and guests
  6. Answer all phones professionally and perform clear, audible announcements
  7. Permit authorized persons to enter the property and monitor entrances and exits
  8. Understand and enforce building policies and procedures within the scope of the role
  9. Follow established emergency action plans, procedures, fire protection, and safety standards
  10. Monitor alarms and related systems as required
  11. Perform operational functions such as scheduling, overtime management, reviewing logs and incident reports, and staff training and development
  12. Test and inspect fire extinguishers and other fire protection devices to ensure compliance with safety standards
  13. Discuss violations and unsafe conditions with site representatives
  14. Prepare reports on inspections, violations, and fire hazard recommendations
  15. Maintain records and logs as required by law
  16. Perform fire-fighting duties during emergencies if necessary
  17. Train others in fire emergency response plans
  18. Assist in fire drills and other safety inspections as needed
  19. Perform additional security and safety duties as permitted and required at the assigned site

Qualifications

  1. State or municipality-mandated security officer licenses
  2. High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
  3. Fire Safety Director license
  4. Knowledge of fire inspection operations and procedures or ability to learn them
  5. Reliable communication and transportation means
  6. Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  7. Security guard license or ability to obtain one within an acceptable period
  8. Experience in contract security, law enforcement, fire department, military, or customer service
  9. Good organizational skills
  10. Ability to write detailed reports, logs, and incident documentation
  11. Ability to work in a fast-paced, customer service environment
  12. Effective time management and problem-solving skills
  13. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic computer skills
