Our Fire & Life Safety Directors support Harvard Protection in our goal of providing best-in-class security and life safety services. Our FSDs are responsible for delivering professional, customer-focused security and life safety services for the people, property, and staff they serve and lead.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a true leader within the team
- Maintain a professional demeanor while leading staff and assisting customers, employees, visitors, and guests
- Maintain a visible presence within the assigned facility or building
- Monitor the environment to detect suspicious or unsafe activity
- Become familiar with incoming and outgoing traffic, and know the customers, tenants, visitors, and guests
- Answer all phones professionally and perform clear, audible announcements
- Permit authorized persons to enter the property and monitor entrances and exits
- Understand and enforce building policies and procedures within the scope of the role
- Follow established emergency action plans, procedures, fire protection, and safety standards
- Monitor alarms and related systems as required
- Perform operational functions such as scheduling, overtime management, reviewing logs and incident reports, and staff training and development
- Test and inspect fire extinguishers and other fire protection devices to ensure compliance with safety standards
- Discuss violations and unsafe conditions with site representatives
- Prepare reports on inspections, violations, and fire hazard recommendations
- Maintain records and logs as required by law
- Perform fire-fighting duties during emergencies if necessary
- Train others in fire emergency response plans
- Assist in fire drills and other safety inspections as needed
- Perform additional security and safety duties as permitted and required at the assigned site
Qualifications
- State or municipality-mandated security officer licenses
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Fire Safety Director license
- Knowledge of fire inspection operations and procedures or ability to learn them
- Reliable communication and transportation means
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Security guard license or ability to obtain one within an acceptable period
- Experience in contract security, law enforcement, fire department, military, or customer service
- Good organizational skills
- Ability to write detailed reports, logs, and incident documentation
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, customer service environment
- Effective time management and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic computer skills
