Basic Function:
The incumbent provides occupational safety/health and environmental support at the facility level. This includes CW, RDC, & Customer Care. It is the facility’s primary safety and environmental point of contact in ensuring compliance with all corporate safety and environmental plans, programs and policies. Works in conjunction with the onsite medical professionals & Safety Clerks in creating a safe and healthful workplace. Is responsible to plant leadership in assuring compliance with all state and federal safety regulations and driving the goals and objective in continuously improving the safety culture. The incumbent is authorized (and required) to suspend any observed unsafe practices pending management review. The Safety Specialist is ‘dotted lined’ to the Global EH&S Manager in support of and execution to all corporate and regulatory safety plans, programs and policies.
Responsibilities:
- Is Chairman of the facility Safety Committee and Steering Teams as well as facilitate Event Learning Teams.
- Ensures the proper execution and effectiveness of all on-going and mandatory safety training (i.e. fork truck driver licensing, lockout procedures, ladder safety, chemical handling, respirator use, safe use of abrasive grinding equipment, JSA’s and others as needed) in accordance with corporate schedules and locally generated requirements.
- Ensures the completion of all industrial hygiene surveys and workplace safety assessments when required.
- Ensures completion and periodic review of all job hazard analysis/job safety analysis.
- Is Responsible for the effectiveness of the Behavior Based Safety Program, Hazard Elimination Program, Human Performance Program and ongoing safety initiatives the company supports.
- Coordinates all accident/injury investigations. Ensures all investigations are completed on time consistent with corporate requirements. Ensures the root causes and human factors of all injuries are accurately identified and proper corrective actions are documented and resolved to prevent recurrence.
- Oversee the assignment of qualified first aid trained employees and emergency responders for all work shifts.
- Monitors workers' compensation claims and issue statistical reports periodically on accident rates.
- Is responsible for the successful completion of all safety program requirements as outlined in the Corporate Facilities Excellence Program (FEM) to include but not limited to.
- Safety Training and training effectiveness
- Safety Training completion tracking
- Safety hazard identification and the resolution
- Employee Safety Awareness
- Participates in the monthly Corporate Global Safety Meetings.
- Responsible to the LV Safety Supervisor for safety, industrial health and environmental programs, plans and policies.
- Works with the Corporate Environmental Manager in ensuring timely submittal of all permitting and licensing requirements appropriate to the facility.
- Works with Management in formulating plant safety and environmental policies consistent with corporate strategies. Ensures employee and facility compliance to all safety and environmental requirements.
- Ensures processes are in place to maintain accurate inventory of SDS sheets and employees understand their right to know when dealing with hazardous materials.
- Responsibilities are subject to change as the Safety and Environmental programs and policies evolve.
- It is the responsibility of the Safety Specialist to ensure the responsibilities listed above are carried out on all production shifts.
Qualifications:
- Safety and health technical degree-4 years.
- Proficient and knowledgeable of all OSHA requirements.
- Good communication skills
- Sound experience in a manufacturing setting.
- Working knowledge of federal, state and local level environmental rules and regulations.
