Job summary

The City of Delray Beach is seeking a Fire Inspector I to perform field inspections, plan reviews, and life-safety enforcement in support of building safety and the community. The role emphasizes compliance with the Florida Fire Prevention Code and city ordinances while engaging with builders, engineers, and the public.

Responsibilities include inspecting new and existing structures, evaluating fire protection systems, and providing technical guidance to applicants.

Qualifications

Associate's Degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Two (2) years of experience and training in fire inspections, plan review and code enforcement.
Must possess State of Florida Fire Safety Inspector I Certification.
Ability to read plans, technical writing skills, and strong public relations abilities.

Responsibilities

Performs field inspections of new/existing buildings during construction to ensure code compliance.
Inspects commercial and industrial buildings, plans reviews, and issues citations as needed.
Enforces fire prevention codes and ordinances with accuracy and fairness.
Evaluates proposed fire protection elements to ensure code compliance.
Prepare reports and correspondence on fire protection engineering issues and life-safety code enforcement.
