Job summary

City of Paducah seeks a Fire Captain to lead crew on an assigned fire engine, directing personnel and equipment during firefighting and prevention operations.

Responsibilities include supervising subordinates, maintaining equipment, responding to alarms, conducting training, and promoting fire safety in the community. Requires high school completion and 5 years as a firefighter with Kentucky license, and ability to perform heavy labor in hazardous conditions.

Qualifications

• Completion of secondary education and five (5) years’ experience as a firefighter; or equivalent combination of training and/or experience evidencing knowledge of firefighting, rescue, first aid.
• Proven ability to operate firefighting equipment and apparatus; perform heavy sustained labor in hazardous conditions.
• Possession of a valid Kentucky driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Drives fire apparatus and operates related fire equipment; directs activities of personnel on assigned engine.
• Performs fire suppression and fire prevention duties; supervises subordinates until relieved by a superior.
• Maintains equipment on assigned fire engines and performs routine upkeep of building and its contents.
• Attends training and speaks to community groups to promote fire safety.
• Maintains records and prepares reports.
• Responds to alarms and extinguishes fires; conducts rescue activities as needed.
• Assists in training sessions to enhance firefighting knowledge and techniques.
