Job summary

The City of Pittsburg is seeking a Fire Lieutenant to manage fire suppression, rescue operations, and prevention activities within the Public Safety, Bureau of Fire. The role directs assigned personnel, ensures firefighter safety, and assumes command on scene until a senior officer arrives.

Responsibilities include responding to structural fires, hazmat incidents and medical calls, operating fire suppression equipment, and maintaining station and vehicle readiness.

Qualifications

• EMT certification must be maintained throughout employment.
• Current permanent rank of Firefighter in the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire as of Aug 10, 2026.
• Must be presently employed by the City of Pittsburgh and remain employed until appointment.

Responsibilities

• Directs the activities of assigned personnel.
• Responds to emergency calls to extinguish fires, rescue lives and handle hazardous conditions.
• Ensures the safety of Firefighters and adherence to safety rules.
• Operates and maintains Bureau vehicles and equipment.
• Drives, operates, and maintains Bureau vehicles and equipment.
• Represents leadership in fire suppression, prevention and public safety duties.
