Application must be completed in full.Position Summary:Inspects, educates, and enforces federal, state, local, Port Houston tariff, and Port Houston fire codes. Coordinates with specialty contractor’s annual and required inspections of fire pumps, fire hose, fire ladders, fire alarm systems, fire extinguishers, cascade systems, and SCBA. Creates reports for fire hydrant and fire extinguisher inspections.Key Responsibilities/Duties:Ensure adequate preventative measures are being taken to minimize threat of harm to Port Houston, its users, tenants and visitorsLead routine inspections for new and existing buildings and fire protection systems to ensure local ordinances and state laws pertaining to fire and life safety are maintainedConduct and oversee monthly fire extinguishers and fire hydrant inspections and testingConduct and oversee annual fire extinguisher inspections with certified outside contractorEnsure all fire pumps are inspected and tested annually, and be able to provide such documentation upon request for reviewEnsure all SCBAs are tested and inspected according to state regulations and be able to provide such documentation upon request for reviewEnsure all Cascade Systems are tested and inspected according to state regulations and be able to provide such documentation upon request for reviewEnsure all fire hose and ladders are tested and inspected according to state regulations and be able to provide such documentation upon request for reviewMonitor Hot Work within Port Houston; ensure complianceMonitor hazardous cargo placement on the terminal and insure placement and segregation in accordance with Port Houston regulationsPrepare pre-fire plans and conduct building inspectionsConduct fire drills and training at Port Houston facilitiesMeet with other departments on projects or leases regarding fire protectionEnforce state, local, tariff, and Port Houston fire codeWork with the Fire Chief and Fire Training Officer in development of annual budget for inspection and fire prevention activitiesAct in accordance with Port Houston core values (respect, excellence, accountability, diligence, and you)Perform other duties as requiredEducation/Experience:High School diploma or GED equivalent required3+ years of related firefighting experience requiredLicense/Certification:A current, valid Texas driver's license is requiredFire Officer I certification preferredTCFP Structural Firefighter basic certification requiredTCFP Hazardous Materials Technician certification requiredTCFP Marine Firefighter basic certifications requiredTCFP Fire Inspector requiredEmergency Medical Technician basic requiredA Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) must be obtained within 30 days of appointment, and be maintained for the duration of employmentKnowledge, Skills, Abilities and Behaviors:Working knowledge names and location of Port Houston facilities and buildings including accesses and exits, driving lanes, docks, facility cranes of all types, auxiliary fire pumps, and like amenities of any tenant utilizing Port Houston property and under our response jurisdictionKnowledge of Port Houston tariffs and USCG requirementsKnowledge of Code of Federal RegulationsKnowledge of NFPA 14: Portable fire extinguishersKnowledge of Fire Code 2012Knowledge of industrial processes and emergency responseKnowledge of fire boat operations and marine firefightingKnowledge of correct passing criteria for equipmentKnowledge of marketing and financial planningAbility to keep required certificationsOral and written communications skillsScheduling and time management skillsOrganization skillsSituational awareness skillsAbility to work as a teamAbility to read and interpret construction drawingsConsidered essential employees and may be required to work on holidays, evenings, nights, and be immediately recalled for emergencies at any time.
