Job summary

Port Houston is seeking an experienced HVAC/electrical maintenance technician for its Central Maintenance site in Houston. The role involves diagnosing HVAC and electrical issues, repairing components, and maintaining parts inventory.

Responsibilities include installing and modifying systems, ensuring safety procedures, and documenting work performed. A high school diploma or GED and 4+ years HVAC experience are required; TWIC and Texas driver’s license are needed within 30 days of appointment.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required;4+ years HVAC experience.
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code and HVAC/Boiler codes.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues; operate trade tools safely.
  • Capable of climbing and working at heights; valid Texas driver's license; TWIC within 30 days.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills; maintain records and inventory.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose problems or malfunctions in HVAC systems and components and direct repairs.
  • Provide inventory control for repair parts and maintain routine work records.
  • Install electrical service, outlets, duct work, and thermostat controls.
  • Periodically inspect units and equipment for status and safety compliance.
  • Comply with safety/environmental procedures; perform overtime as required.
  • Operate forklift and CMMS system as needed; work a flexible shift if requested.

Application must be completed in full.Position Summary:Perform skilled electrical work in the maintenance of facilities and on HVAC.Key Responsibilities/Duties:Diagnose problems or recurring malfunctions; choose the course of action and repair or direct repairs to HVAC systems and their componentsProvide inventory control for stock level of repair partsMaintain routine records related to work performed and materials used; solder copper tubing, fittings, and connectorsDiagnose electrical or mechanical problems by the use of appropriate equipment and tools such as voltmeters, gauges, vacuum pump, gas and propane torch, solder iron, and other tools common to the tradeMake modifications to existing or add on facilities by installing electrical service, outlets, drain pans, duct work, transitions, registers, thermostat controls, and other items pertaining to HVAC systemsPeriodically check all window units, water coolers, and icemakers for inventory control and functional statusEnsure safety and environmental procedures are exercised during the performance of daily activitiesWork required scheduled overtime hours and be available for unscheduled overtime when operating requirements or other business needs of Port Houston cannot be fulfilled during regular working hoursWork a temporary, alternative schedule or shift as requested by supervisorAct in accordance with Port Houston core values (respect, excellence, accountability, diligence, and you)Perform other duties as requiredEducation/Experience:High School diploma or GED equivalent required4+ years HVAC experience requiredCertificates from vocational trade schools desirableKnowledge, Skills, Abilities and Behaviors:Knowledge of relevant electrical codes: National Electrical code HVAC and Boiler codesKnowledge of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systemsKnowledge of basic electronic troubleshooting and repairsKnowledge of environmental and security controlsJudgment and quick-thinking skillsAbility to give written and oral directionsAbility to communicate with othersAbility to climb and be comfortable at heightsAbility to remove, replace or repair any component of the Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning SystemKnowledge of safety precautions necessary to deal with occupational hazards.Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writingAbility to operate forklift, if neededAbility to operate M5 Maintenance Management computer system as requiredA current, valid Texas driver's license is requiredA Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) must be obtained within 30 days of appointment, and be maintained for the duration of employmentKey Competencies Required:Achieving ResultsAttention to DetailCoachingEffective CommunicationPlanning and OrganizingKnowledge of safety policies and proceduresThis work site location of this job is:Central MaintenanceWork Environment:The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
