Job summary

City of Wheeling Fire Department seeks a skilled Fire Equipment Mechanic to diagnose, repair and maintain a wide range of fire apparatus, ambulances and support equipment. Under supervision, you'll service engines, transmissions, hydraulics and electrical systems, and perform body and paint work as needed.

The role requires a high school diploma, 5 years of mechanics experience, and CDL; IAFC certification within 2 years. On-call duties and field service are included.

Qualifications

• HS diploma and 5 years of mechanical experience is required.
• Experience maintaining and repairing fire prevention and suppression equipment preferred.
• IAFC certification within 2 years of employment is required.
• CDL license is required.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair a wide range of fire vehicles and equipment.
• Perform suspension, driveline, brake, steering, powertrain, electrical and hydraulic work.
• Carry out auto body, welding and paint tasks as needed.
• Work in shop and on-field calls on a on-call schedule.
• Register and complete work orders after tasks.
