Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in fire science, fire administration, public administration or related field.
  • Alaska Fire Officer Certification required.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • IC S100/200/700/800 training to be completed within 6 months; S300/400 when available.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee department operations and personnel administration.
  • Coordinate with City officials and state fire officials.
  • Develop and monitor operating plans and budgets.
  • Set department goals and track progress.
  • Plan staffing, shifts, and work assignments.
  • Maintain training programs for staff and volunteers.
  • Ensure compliance with fire safety laws and standards.
  • Negotiate mutual aid and coordinate with surrounding jurisdictions.
  • Approve equipment purchases and oversee facilities maintenance.
  • Act as fire ground commander during incidents and EMS responses.
  • Ensure department readiness and inspections of buildings for hazards.
