Job summary

The City of Fairbanks is seeking an experienced Fire Department administrator to oversee one or more divisions, assist the Fire Chief in direction of the department, and may act as Fire Chief as assigned.

The position requires strategic and tactical leadership, budget development, policy coordination, and clear communication during emergencies, with responsibilities spanning operations, public relations, and department governance.

Qualifications

• Ten (10) years of experience in professional fire and EMS organization, including supervisory experience at the Captain level or higher.
• Firefighter I, Alaska EMT-1 (or NREMT)
• Associate Degree in Fire Science, Fire Administration, Public Administration, or related field
• Fire Officer I (or ability to obtain within a set time frame)
• Possess and maintain a valid State of Alaska driver's license throughout employment

Responsibilities

• Function at both a strategic and tactical level.
• Direct the administrative activities of one or more divisions of the department.
• Provide direct supervision of subordinate personnel.
• Assist in budgeting and developing department budgets.
• Coordinate review and modification of department policies and procedures.
• Interpret rules, contracts, and standing protocols affecting divisions and department.
• Respond to major emergencies and multi-alarm operations to provide direction.
• Represent the Fire Chief with the public in assigned areas.
