Job summary

Pitt Community College's Continuing Education Division seeks an EMS Instructor to deliver high-quality, non-credit courses such as EMT, Advanced EMT, Paramedic, and refresher programs. Instructors provide classroom and hands-on lab instruction, ensuring students develop the knowledge, skills, and competencies required for success in the EMS profession.

You will maintain accurate registration, attendance, and payroll records, review and update syllabi regularly, and support curriculum revisions.

Qualifications

  • Hold appropriate state and/or national EMS certification (e.g., EMT, Advanced EMT, or Paramedic) with relevant field experience.
  • Instructor credentials or teaching experience may be required depending on course level.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and teach assigned courses in accordance with course syllabus.
  • Maintain accurate registration, attendance, and payroll records for each course taught.
  • Prepare, review, and update course syllabus on a regular basis.
  • Recommend and assist with curriculum revisions as necessary.
  • Use formative and summative assessment techniques to improve learning and teaching.
  • Create an effective learning environment and use teaching methods designed for a variety of learning styles.
  • Submit required reports and fulfill all contract provisions.
  • Assist with maintaining a classroom environment emphasizing safety, good housekeeping, and equipment security.
  • Maintain student, instructor, and staff confidentiality. FERPA compliance.
  • Multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
  • Adapt and respond to changing work situations and environments in a positive manner.
  • Participate in professional development activities designed to enhance job skills and knowledge.
  • Interact with students, the public, the community, and co-workers in a cooperative, courteous and professional manner.
  • Comply with the College's policies and procedures.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities, as assigned by supervisor.

Job description

This posting as been set up to receive candidate applications for interest in teaching Emergency Medical Services (EMS) courses through the Continuing Education Division at Pitt Community College and will allow our staff to search applications and skills when active class needs are available.

The EMS Instructor delivers high-quality, non-credit, instructions in courses such as EMT, Advanced EMT, Paramedic, and refresher or continuing education programs. Instructors provide both classroom and hands-on lab instruction, ensuring that students develop the knowledge, skills, and competencies required for success in the EMS profession. EMS Instructors play a vital role in preparing students to serve their communities as competent and compassionate emergency medical providers while upholding the mission of the community college and its commitment to workforce development.

  • Participate in professional development activities designed to enhance job skills and knowledge, as agreed upon by the employee and supervisor.
