Job summary

County Emergency Communications in Erwin, NC seeks Fire Dispatcher opportunities to coordinate fire responses, receive incident information, alert resources and maintain clear radio communication.

These roles may require overnight shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and other coverage during major incidents. A high school diploma or GED is commonly required, and dispatch certs or EMS training may be needed for certain postings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is commonly required.
• Fire dispatch certification or EMS/incident-management coursework may be required for certain assignments.
• Experience with computer systems, maps, data entry and radio communication is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Receive and document reports of fires, rescues, alarms and hazardous conditions.
• Verify incident locations, access information and reported risks.
• Alert stations and dispatch apparatus using approved response assignments.
• Monitor radio channels, unit availability and incident status.
• Relay information about occupants, hazards and changing conditions.
• Process requests for additional resources through established procedures.
• Coordinate mutual-aid communications when assigned.
• Record dispatch times, unit movements and significant incident updates.
