The City of Colorado Springs is seeking an entry-level Fire Code Inspector I in the Division of the Fire Marshal. You will perform inspections citywide to enforce fire codes, advise owners on hazardous materials, and issue permits as needed.

Required: high school diploma or GED, 1 year related experience, valid driver's license, and within 12 months ICC Fire Inspector I + State Fire Inspector I + ICS 100/200/700 certifications; background check required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One year of full-time experience in a related field.
  • Valid, non-probationary driver's license.
  • Within 12 months, obtain ICC Fire Inspector I, State Fire Inspector I, and ICS IX/X certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect buildings and facilities for fire and safety code compliance.
  • Consult with owners and designers on hazardous materials handling and storage.
  • Prepare reports and correspondence on inspections.
  • Give educational fire prevention presentations to staff and the public.
  • Maintain inspection files and stay current on fire protection technologies.
