Job summary

The City of Compton seeks a Fire Captain to lead a fire station on an assigned shift, taking immediate responsibility for apparatus and equipment. You will also oversee fire prevention work when assigned by the Fire Chief and guide training and drills for the crew.

Qualified applicants have a high school diploma with fire-related college coursework or an AS in Fire Science, and several years of municipal firefighting experience.

Qualifications

• High school graduation with at least one college level course in Fire Management, Fire Command, Fire Investigation, Fire Prevention and Fire Instruction.
• An Associate in Science degree in Fire Science can substitute for the required college level courses.

Responsibilities

• Command and supervise a fire station on an assigned shift, directing personnel and maintaining discipline.
• Direct the use and maintenance of fire apparatus and equipment.
• Plan equipment placement and the best methods for extinguishing fires.
• Oversee fire prevention work when assigned by the Fire Chief.
• Maintain records and submit reports as required.
