Job summary

The City of Selma, CA is seeking a Fire Battalion Chief to plan, organize, and manage technical work in commanding fire suppression, prevention, and emergency activities. The role may assume department command in the Chief’s absence and oversee daily operations and personnel.

Responsibilities include directing training, budgeting, policy implementation, incident command, and interagency coordination while ensuring readiness and safety across all fire department functions.

Qualifications

• Six (6) years of full-time firefighting experience with two+ years at a level equal to Fire Captain.
• Associate degree required; Fire Science/Administration degree desirable.
• Possession of California Driver’s License with Firefighter endorsement and CPR.

Responsibilities

• Respond to emergencies, deploy personnel, and assume command when needed.
• Prepare written and oral reports on fire protection services and operations.
• Assist in planning and budgeting; propose improvements for services.
• Plan and implement training programs for department staff.
• Oversee operations of fire suppression personnel and stations on shift.
• Mentor and develop personnel; ensure policy and procedure compliance.
