Job summary

Firematic is seeking a mechanical engineer to design and engineer custom fire apparatus and emergency vehicles. You will create vehicle bodies and chassis cab accessories using SolidWorks and produce shop drawings to guide fabrication.

The role requires meticulous attention to detail, hands-on automotive knowledge, and the ability to translate customer specifications into precise designs while coordinating with production, sales, and management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years work experience.
• Proficient SolidWorks modeling of complex sheet metal assemblies.
• SolidWorks for complex plumbing and electrical harnesses.
• Experience with SolidWorks PDM and design libraries.
• Read specifications and design to meet them precisely.
• Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving.
• Understanding automotive engineering and drivetrains.
• Familiar with CNC machinery and shop tools.
• Experience creating drawings for manufacturing.
• Hydrodynamics knowledge in fire industry plumbing.

Responsibilities

• Design emergency vehicle bodies and chassis cab accessories using SolidWorks.
• Produce drawings for fabrication and assembly.
• Ensure CAD configurations prevent conflicts.
• Understand cable routing for complex sheet metal assemblies.
• Coordinate with Director of Operations on production scheduling.
• Follow safety procedures on the production floor.
• Ensure products meet customer specifications.
• Generate and maintain parts lists.
• Maintain organized parts and design library.
• Present vehicle designs during Pre-Construction meetings.
• Communicate design updates with management and sales staff.
• Check shop work for quality assurance and provide feedback.
