Job summary

Liberty University, Inc. seeks a Fire Alarm Tech II responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, programming, testing, and inspection of fire alarm systems across campus. Qualifications

  • Maintain and repair Life Safety Systems such as Fire Alarms and Generators.

Job description

Fire Alarm Tech II

Responsible for installation, troubleshooting, programming, testing, and inspection of fire alarm systems campus wide. Working independently and exercising good judgment and discretion.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Available for school closings, delays, shutdowns, emergencies, severe weather incidents, snow removal activities such as shoveling, salting, etc.
  2. Report to work at required time and perform duties assigned by the Fire Alarms Supervisor and/or Maintenance Manager.
  3. Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing job duties and operating related equipment.
  4. Wear harness with lanyard and other PPE if operating aerial lifts.
  5. Inspect buildings for code compliance and identify/correct hazards.
  6. Perform annual inspections and preventive maintenance services on fire alarm systems.
  7. Install pull stations, smoke detectors, and duct detectors.
  8. Complete work orders on a daily basis.
  9. Maintain assigned vehicle and equipment.
  10. Install, modify, maintain, program, and repair fire alarm systems.
  11. Participate in a 7‑day “On Call” rotation.
  12. Work 1st or 2nd shift.
  13. Perform various tasks as assigned.
  14. Provide maintenance and repair for Life Safety Systems such as Fire Alarms, Generators, Emergency Warning System, and Elevators.
  15. Provide maintenance and repair for Auxiliary Systems such as JF Library ASRS and Bowling Alley.
  16. Maintain stock for all assigned systems.
  17. Maintain documentation for assigned systems.
  18. Complete work orders as needed.
  19. Comply with all applicable health and safety regulations, policies, and established work practices.
  20. Stay abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services, and industry benchmarks.
  21. Work effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.
Qualifications, Credentials, and Competencies
  1. High school degree or GED.
  2. Minimum 2 years as a Fire Alarm Helper or related experience and good understanding of Fire Alarm Systems.
  3. Experience with Fire Alarms in Maintenance or Construction environments preferred.
  4. Understanding of hand tools such as screwdriver, cutters, electrical strippers, etc.
  5. Basic knowledge of Voice Evac operations preferred but not required.
  6. Ability to understand and follow instructions, work under limited supervision.
  7. Ability to work well with the public and co-workers and present a positive attitude.
  8. Exceptional self‑management, desire to work with a team, urgency to grow and improve.
  9. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and excellent computer skills.
  10. Clean professional appearance, courteous, detail oriented, self‑motivated, diligent, trustworthy, strong organizational and planning, well‑developed communication skills.
  11. Able to lift 50+ pounds and perform duties in typical Virginia climate.
  12. Willingness to use aerial lifts or obtain certifications; certifications may be reimbursed after termination.
  13. Proof of valid Virginia driver’s license, acceptable DMV record, liability insurance.
