Job summary

Shambaugh & Son is seeking a mission-critical fire alarm technician to install, test, and maintain high-reliability life safety systems in data centers, hospitals, and other sensitive environments.

Job involves NFPA code work, NICET preference, and coordination with engineers to ensure zero downtime during scheduled maintenance. Includes routine preventive maintenance and advanced troubleshooting in demanding facilities.

Qualifications

• NFPA 70/72 knowledge required.
• NICET certification preferred.
• 2–5 years of hands-on low-voltage electrical or commercial fire alarm experience in industrial or mission-critical settings.
• Proficiency in programming major manufacturer platforms.

Responsibilities

• System Installation: Install complex low-voltage wiring, control panels, and detection devices per engineering blueprints.
• Commissioning & Testing: Perform point-to-point testing and verification of integrated fire alarm systems.
• Preventive Maintenance: Conduct diagnostic checks and battery load tests to prevent failures.
• Advanced Troubleshooting: Diagnose faults and communication errors using multimeters and diagnostic tools.
• Compliance Documentation: Maintain testing records, system changes, and NFPA inspection reports.
• Cross-Functional Coordination: Coordinate with data center engineers, project managers, and safety officers during maintenance windows.
• Other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• System Installation: Install complex low-voltage wiring, control panels, and detection devices according to strict engineering blueprints.
• Commissioning & Testing: Perform comprehensive point-to-point testing and verification of integrated fire alarm and special hazard suppression systems.
• Preventive Maintenance: Conduct routine diagnostic checks and battery load tests to prevent unexpected system failures.
• Advanced Troubleshooting: Diagnose ground faults, wiring anomalies, and communication errors swiftly using specialized multimeters and diagnostic tools.
• Compliance Documentation: Maintain meticulous records of testing results, system changes, and NFPA-mandated inspection reports.
• Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate with data center engineers, project managers, and safety officers to execute work during scheduled maintenance windows.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Code Knowledge: Deep understanding of NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code) and NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code). NICET Certification preferred.
• Experience: Minimum 2 to 5 years of hands‑on low‑voltage electrical or commercial fire alarm experience, preferably in industrial or mission‑critical settings.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in programming major manufacturer platforms
• Must have the ability to lift/move equipment and tools weighing up to 50 lbs. Perform work in unusual and sometimes difficult positions such as climbing ladders, scaffolding and high lift equipment up to 40 feet, working in ducts, crawl spaces, above ceilings, etc.
• Regular and reliable attendance, including the ability to work extended hours and weekends as required
