Job summary

Shambaugh & Son, L.P. is seeking a mission-critical fire alarm technician to install, test, and maintain life-safety systems in data centers, hospitals, and other sensitive environments. You will read blueprints, wire low-voltage circuits, and ensure reliable operation to prevent downtime.

The role requires NFPA knowledge and 2–5 years of hands-on experience with NICET preferred. You’ll document inspections and coordinate with project teams during scheduled maintenance windows, including

Qualifications

  • NFPA 70 and NFPA 72 knowledge required.
  • 2–5 years of hands-on low-voltage electrical or fire alarm experience.

Responsibilities

  • Install complex low-voltage wiring and detection devices per blueprints.
  • Perform commissioning, point-to-point testing, and verification of systems.
  • Conduct routine preventive maintenance and diagnostic checks.
  • Diagnose faults using multimeters and diagnostic tools.
  • Maintain inspection reports and NFPA documentation.
  • Coordinate with data center engineers and project teams during maintenance windows.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

Shambaugh & Son is looking for a mission-critical fire alarm technician installs tests and maintains high-reliability life safety systems in sensitive environments like data centers, hospitals, and communication hubs where any system failure or accidental discharge causes catastrophic operational downtime.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • System Installation: Install complex low-voltage wiring, control panels, and detection devices according to strict engineering blueprints.
  • Commissioning & Testing: Perform comprehensive point-to-point testing and verification of integrated fire alarm and special hazard suppression systems.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Conduct routine diagnostic checks and battery load tests to prevent unexpected system failures.
  • Advanced Troubleshooting: Diagnose ground faults, wiring anomalies, and communication errors swiftly using specialized multimeters and diagnostic tools.
  • Compliance Documentation: Maintain meticulous records of testing results, system changes, and NFPA-mandated inspection reports.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate with data center engineers, project managers, and safety officers to execute work during scheduled maintenance windows.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Code Knowledge: Deep understanding of NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code) and NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code). NICET Certification preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 to 5 years of hands‑on low‑voltage electrical or commercial fire alarm experience, preferably in industrial or mission‑critical settings.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in programming major manufacturer platforms
  • Must have the ability to lift/move equipment and tools weighing up to 50 lbs. Perform work in unusual and sometimes difficult positions such as climbing ladders, scaffolding and high lift equipment up to 40 feet, working in ducts, crawl spaces, above ceilings, etc.
  • Regular and reliable attendance, including the ability to work extended hours and weekends as required
