Campus Facility Services (CFS) is proud to provide all Indiana University (IU) Indianapolis students, faculty, staff, and visitors with a high-quality physical environment. We provide maintenance, grounds and custodial services for more than 70 buildings and parking garages and over 300 acres of lawns, trees, plantings, sidewalks and parking lots. The department is also a frequent partner with IU Capital Projects on campus renovation projects and new construction initiatives.

Job Summary

Installs, repairs, and inspects smoke and fire suppressions systems; inspects tests, and repairs fire alarm wiring, fire alarm panels and peripheral equipment.

Identifies hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair.

Inspects, repairs, or replaces smoke/heat detectors and sprinkler heads; repairs and tests dry/wet systems; tests fire alarm systems using appropriate diagnostic programs and equipment.

Performs tests on fire pumps and standpipe systems.

Ensures that work is in accordance with relevant codes.

Performs other general building maintenance as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION Required: High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)

WORK EXPERIENCE Required: 5 years Verifiable journey level experience in the electrical field OR Certificate in DOL apprenticed electrical trade.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES Required: Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University Upon Date of Hire

  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics.
  • Ability to use diagnostic program and other applicable diagnostic software and equipment.
  • Ability to perform true test smoke detector sensitivity procedure.
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  • Ability to work with wide variety of cultures and backgrounds.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including general building maintenance duties.
  • Drives University vehicles as needed.
  • Works any shift as needed.
  • 24-hour a day emergency response as needed.
  • Assists with snow removal activities as necessary.
