Job summary

Indiana University in Bloomington is seeking a Facility Operations specialist to install, test, and repair low voltage wiring, cabling, and systems across campus. You will review drawings, maintain documentation, and assist in creating project estimates while supporting safety and high-quality craftsmanship in a fast-paced environment.

FACILITY OPERATIONS-IUB (BL-PHYP-IUBLA)

Capital Planning and Facilities (CPF) works to ensure that Indiana University (IU) campuses are beautiful, functional, and sustainable supporting excellence in teaching, learning, research, and community engagement across the entire university. A unit within CPF, Facility Operations maintains our physical campus to support research, teaching, and learning at Indiana University Bloomington. As a unit of Capital Planning and Facilities, Facility Operations provides wide-ranging services all with the goal of creating a beautiful, well-functioning campus.

  • Installs pathways and spaces for installation of low voltage wiring. Installs, terminates, and tests wires and cables, both copper and fiber-optic. Installs, tests, and troubleshoots cabling systems. Installs communications and sound distribution systems. Installs prefabricated systems, such as controllers, dimming systems, life/safety systems, and energy management systems.
  • Performs testing, analysis, and repair of video, voice, and data systems.
  • Utilizes tools and equipment in a safe manner as well as following all applicable safety rules and procedures.
  • Reviews and makes applicable recommendations to drawings, blueprints, and construction specifications.
  • Participates in the training of apprentices and/or other workers as needed.
  • Orders replacement parts and components as needed.
  • Provides documentation as required for field work and assignments.
  • Assists in providing work estimates on assigned projects.
  • Stays available for emergency callouts and overtime as required.
  • Drives vehicle if needed.

EDUCATION/ WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED) and 5 years of verifiable journey-level experience. OR
  • Associate's degree 2 years of verifiable journey level experience.

  • Possesses a valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire.

This role frequently requires the ability to remain stationary and ascend/descend ladders/stairs. This role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The role requires the ability to detect items in close proximity as well as far away; discern between colors; detect objects in peripheral space of self; discern items in detail; and to have good depth perception. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
