Job summary

Alaka‘i Services Group Inc. (ASGI), based in Hawaii, seeks a Fire Alarm Technician to service Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam and nearby installations.

You will inspect, test, and maintain FACP, initiating devices, and mass notification systems per NFPA 72 and UFC 3-600-01, collaborating with the base Fire Department and QA representatives. The role requires 3–5 years’ experience, NICET II certification, and a DoD/Navy access credential.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with military/DoD facility standards and UFC 3-600-01 strongly preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required; ability to operate government or company vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, test, and maintain fire alarm control panels (FACP), initiating devices, and notification appliances.
• Perform scheduled inspections as required by the PWS.
• Troubleshoot and repair fire alarm system malfunctions and defects.
• Replace or recalibrate detectors and devices as needed.
• Test mass notification and EVACS interfaces with building systems.
• Maintain as-built drawings, schedules, and panel programming documentation.
• Adhere to NFPA 72, UFC 3-600-01, and AHJ requirements; document results in CMMS.

Job description

Job Purpose

The Fire Alarm Technician is responsible for the inspection, testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of fire alarm and detection systems at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam (JBPHH) and designated outlying military installations throughout Hawaii. The position supports the continued safe and reliable operation of fire alarm, detection, mass notification, and emergency communication systems.

Work will be performed in accordance with applicable requirements, including NFPA 72, NFPA 101, UFC 3-600-01, Department of Defense/Navy installation directives, local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements, and other applicable federal and local codes and standards. The Fire Alarm Technician serves as a subject matter expert for conventional, addressable, and mass notification fire alarm systems.

The position reports to the Project Manager/Site Supervisor and works closely with the installation Fire Department, Facilities Engineering, and Government Quality Assurance Representative (QAR).

Duties and Responsibilities

• Inspect, test, and maintain fire alarm control panels (FACP), initiating devices, notification appliances, and auxiliary control functions in accordance with NFPA 72 and applicable UFC standards.
• Perform annual, semi-annual, and quarterly inspections of fire alarm systems as required by the Performance Work Statement (PWS).
• Troubleshoot and repair fire alarm system malfunctions, including panel faults, open circuits, ground faults, device failures, and communication errors.
• Replace or recalibrate smoke detectors, heat detectors, manual pull stations, horn/strobes, duct detectors, and other applicable devices as needed.
• Test and verify the proper operation of mass notification systems (MNS), emergency voice/alarm communication systems (EVACS), and interfaces with building automation and suppression systems.
• Maintain and update as-built drawings, device schedules, and panel programming documentation.
• Ensure work complies with NFPA 72, NFPA 101, UFC 3-600-01, DoD/Navy installation directives, and applicable local AHJ requirements.
• Document inspections, test results, deficiencies, and corrective actions in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and/or other government-required reporting formats.
• Participate in quality control inspections, government QAR reviews, and safety inspections.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment and comply with applicable OSHA, installation safety, and environmental requirements.
• Maintain required certifications and participate in continuing education and training as required.
• Complete scheduled inspections within the timeframes established by the PWS and NFPA 72.
• Complete and submit inspection reports within required contract timeframes.
• Respond to emergency service calls within the response times established by the PWS.
• Prepare deficiency reports and provide corrective-action recommendations within required timeframes.
• Perform work in accordance with applicable NFPA, UFC, and AHJ standards and support satisfactory government QAR inspections.

• Valid driver's license required, with the ability to operate government or company vehicles on the installation.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD/Navy Base Access credential, including required background screening.
• U.S. Citizenship required for base access.
• OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety certification preferred

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work at heights using ladders, scaffolding, and aerial lifts.
• Ability to work in confined spaces, attics, mechanical rooms, and crawl spaces.
• Ability to work outdoors in Hawaii's tropical climate conditions.
• Color vision sufficient to read wiring diagrams and identify color-coded conductors.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.

Work Schedule and Location

The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, or as otherwise directed by the contract. On-call or emergency-response availability may be required, including participation in a rotating on-call schedule.

Work locations include Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam and designated outlying areas, including Ford Island, Lualualei, West Loch, Barbers Point, Kunia, and other designated sites.
