Job summary

University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) seeks a Facilities Mechanic to maintain fire alarm, life-safety, and electronic security systems across campus. You will inspect, test, repair, and document work on access control, cameras, intrusion, and related low-voltage equipment under supervision and with a team.

The role requires strong troubleshooting, hands-on mechanical/electrical skills, and the ability to work with electricians, other UCLA trades, and campus stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform routine electrical maintenance and repair on de-energized circuits.
• Knowledge of power and hand tools and safe work practices.
• Ability to read specifications, blueprints, and manuals.
• Team collaboration with other trades and departments.
• Strong English literacy for reports and orders.
• Ability to perform basic math calculations accurately.
• Familiarity with electronic security systems and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, install, test, troubleshoot, repair, and document fire alarm and security systems.
• Support access control, video surveillance, intrusion and panic systems.
• Coordinate with electricians and UCLA trades to complete tasks.
• Follow department procedures and provide guidance to Facilities Workers.
• Perform physical tasks in various campus locations and maintain safety practices.
