Job summary

Pye-Barker Fire & Safety is seeking a building fire alarm inspector to perform inspections, testing, and reporting for various properties. You will assist the Lead Inspector and Inspection Manager with data collection and paperwork, ensuring timely completion of tests and documentation.

The role requires familiarity with NFPA standards, good communication, and teamwork. Some prior fire alarm experience is preferred; PC and Palm handheld usage are included in daily tasks.

Qualifications

  • College degree preferred; high school diploma acceptable with experience.
  • NFPA standards knowledge for inspection and testing of fire protection systems.
  • NICET certifications desired.
  • Strong written and oral communication; customer service oriented.
  • Team player and able to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Fire alarm experience is preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency with test equipment and PC usage including Palm OS.

Responsibilities

  • Perform building fire alarm inspections, test devices, record results, and generate reports.
  • Assist Lead Inspector or Inspection Manager in data collection and paperwork.
  • Download inspection data and produce Fire Alarm Inspection Reports.
  • Participate in monthly team meetings and other duties as assigned.
  • Adhere to safety policies and maintain professional conduct.

This position is responsible for performing building fire alarm inspections including testing devices, recording and generating results, and providing reports. Duties include assisting both the Lead Inspector and/or Inspection Manager in collecting data and generating any necessary paperwork (Fire Alarm Inspection Reports, Quick Reports, and Inspection Certificates).

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Ensure that all inspections are completed on a timely basis and that inspections are done accurately and thoroughly.
  • Testing of all building Fire alarm control panels, devices, and functions of the fire alarm system and entering the test results into the Palm handheld device.
  • Upon completion of an inspection download the information and generate a completed Fire Alarm Inspection Report.
  • Participate in monthly team meetings.
  • Perform other duties assigned by management.
Education/Qualification
  • College Degree is preferred; however, a High School diploma or equivalent is acceptable with acceptable experience.
  • Study and learn NFPA standards for the inspection and testing of fire protection systems. Stay current with code requirements, and industry changes, and obtain NICET certifications
  • Must demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills and be customer service oriented.
  • Must be able and willing to work within a team environment.
  • Fire Alarm experience is preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency in using test equipment including sensitivity test equipment, multi-meters, battery analyzers, sound level meters, and communicating devices.
  • Need good networking PC skills including use of Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and use of Palm unit operating systems.
  • Must be punctual. Being on time is critical due to the need to perform sound tests prior to building tenant arrivals.
  • Ability to be on the phone and computer consistently throughout the day.
Other Duties
  • Adheres to the Code of Conduct, Confidentiality Agreement, and Company Safety Policy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
  • Industrial, Commercial, & Residential building environment with moderate to high noise levels, and comfort with working at heights.
  • Mostly a physically demanding role. Most of the daily demand is standing and walking stairs and climbing ladders.
  • May need to lift objects up to 50 pounds.
