The Role
About ERA

Emergency Response Associates has designed, installed, monitored, and serviced fire alarm, life safety, and security systems since 1994. We serve more than 7,500 customers across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware, backed by NICET-certified staff and a 23-technician field team. We take code, safety, and our customers seriously — and we invest in the people who do the work.

The Role

We're hiring a Fire Alarm Inspector to test, inspect, and maintain fire alarm and life safety systems in the field. We're open to two kinds of candidates:

  • Experienced inspectors who already know NFPA 72, know how to test a system, and can hit the ground running.
  • Green candidates who are mechanically inclined, reliable, and eager to learn a skilled trade — we'll put you through a structured training program and support you toward NICET certification.

If you're dependable, good with your hands, and want a long-term career in life safety, we want to talk to you.

What You'll Do
  • Perform inspections, testing, and maintenance of fire alarm systems per NFPA 72 and local code
  • Test devices — smoke detectors, heat detectors, pull stations, notification appliances, and control panels
  • Document inspection results accurately and flag deficiencies for repair
  • Communicate professionally with customers, building staff, and AHJs on site
  • Coordinate with our service and central-station teams to place systems on and off test
  • Drive to customer sites across the region in a company vehicle (safe driving record required)
What We Provide (for candidates who need training)

New hires without fire alarm experience go through a structured training program designed to build real competency and move you toward NICET Level I and II certification, including:

  • Online and self-paced coursework (fire alarm fundamentals, Ohm's law, system modules)
  • Hands-on, in-person instruction from our internal NICET-certified staff
  • On-the-job training alongside experienced inspectors
  • Manufacturer training on major panel platforms
  • OSHA 10 and portable fire extinguisher (NFPA 10) training
What You Bring

Required (all candidates)

  • Reliable, punctual, and safety-minded
  • Comfortable working with your hands, on ladders, and in a range of building environments
  • Ability to read and follow instructions, checklists, and basic diagrams
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Good communication and a professional, customer-facing attitude

Preferred (experienced candidates)

  • NICET certification in Fire Alarm Systems (Level I or higher)
  • Prior fire alarm inspection, testing, or installation experience
  • Familiarity with NFPA 72 and major panel platforms (Silent Knight, Potter, Fire-Lite, Notifier, Simplex, etc.)
  • Low-voltage, electrical, or related trade background
What We Offer
  • Competitive hourly pay based on experience
  • Paid, structured training and a clear path to NICET certification for entry-level hires
  • Company vehicle for field work
  • Benefits package
  • Stable, 30-year company with steady work and real growth opportunity in a high-demand trade
