Job summary

The University of Washington Facilities Maintenance & Construction is hiring a Fire Alarm Control Technician to inspect, test, and maintain fire detection and life safety systems across campus buildings, including classrooms, labs, residence halls and medical facilities. Based at the UW Tower in Seattle, this full-time position operates on a schedule of 5:55am to 2:25pm and is not eligible for telework.

The role requires working with facilities staff and external contractors to ensure system

Responsibilities

  • Routinely perform regulatory confidence testing on fire alarm and life safety systems in occupied research laboratories, medical facilities, residence halls, classrooms and other higher education facilities
  • Service, install, test, inspect, calibrate, commission, repair, troubleshoot, maintain and operate complex fire detection/alarm systems in University buildings that are routinely occupied and cannot be disturbed
  • Work varied shift hours and work overtime when assigned or called back for a facilities emergency
  • Collaborate with other University employees and contractors daily in a professional manner to resolve fire detection/alarm and life safety systems issues
  • Maintain and update fire detection/alarm and life safety testing documentation to reflect the current conditions
  • Follow safe work and housekeeping practices, comply with departmental and university policies, and comply with environmental and other regulations while performing duties
  • Perform other duties as assigned

UW Facilities Maintenance & Construction has an outstanding opportunity for a Fire Alarm Control Technician [Control Technician (NE S WFSE Trades)].
About this Opportunity

The Seattle campus has over 150 buildings with educational classrooms, office space, research laboratories, medical facilities, residence halls and public assembly occupancies. This work requires specialized skills and knowledge in high-rise and low-rise building fire detection/alarm systems and emergency communication systems.

Work Schedule
  • Full time, Monday through Friday, 05:55am - 02:25pm

  • This position is based at the University of Washington Tower and is not eligible for telework.

Key Responsibilities
100%
Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance
  • Routinely perform regulatory confidence testing on fire alarm and life safety systems in occupied research laboratories, medical facilities, residence halls, classrooms and other higher education facilities

  • Service, install, test, inspect, calibrate, commission, repair, troubleshoot, maintain and operate complex fire detection/alarm systems, life safety systems and other monitoring/control/signal/clock systems in University buildings that are routinely occupied and cannot be disturbed

  • Work varied shift hours and work overtime when assigned or called back for a facilities emergency

Communication, Coordination, and Reports
  • Collaborate with other University employees and contractors daily in a professional manner to resolve fire detection/alarm and life safety systems issues

  • Maintain and update fire detection/alarm and life safety testing documentation to reflect the current conditions

  • Follow safe work and housekeeping practices, comply with departmental and university policies, and comply with environmental and other regulations while performing duties
