Basic Functions
The Finishing Site Technician is responsible for the daily activities of animal care at the finishing site to safely produce high-quality animals through great production and for caring for the welfare of the animals, including feed, air, water, and management.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Complies with company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS) to complete all daily tasks effectively and efficiently.
- Ensures animals are being cared for daily, including water, feed, and management.
- Ensures and follows the highest level of a safe work environment and work practices.
- Complies with the practices and principles of biosecurity to safeguard the herd's health.
- Routinely cares for the welfare of the animals daily, following SOPs.
- Provides feedback on production-related issues to the Finishing Site Manager.
- Flows pigs through the barn to maximize usage and optimize health and production.
- Ensures cleanliness and sanitation in barn, alleyways, and office.
- Assists with other duties as assigned by the Site Manager or Finishing Services Manager.
Education & Work Experience
- Desire to work with pigs, willingness to learn animal behavior, and perform routine animal care tasks.
- Must be available to work 11 of 14 days in a pay cycle, including some weekends and holidays.
- Must have a solid work history and be able to provide solid work references.
Mental and Physical Demands
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, squat, and be on feet for up to 10 hours per day.
- Frequent bending, reaching, pulling, lifting – occasionally up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in noisy environments requiring hearing protection.
- High respect towards team members and animals.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to follow directions and work in a fast-paced environment.
