Job summary

Marlen, part of the Duravant family, seeks a reliable Finishing Tech to prepare materials for welding, grinding, polishing, and media blasting. You will operate grinders, pneumatic tools, saws, welding machines, and forklifts as required, ensuring surfaces are prepped and finished pieces meet specifications.

Qualified candidates have a high school diploma, 2 years of metal fabrication experience, basic blueprint reading, and the ability to use a tape measure and computer systems.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 2 years’ experience in metal fabrication.
  • Basic ability to read and interpret blueprints and use a tape measure.
  • Basic ability to use computer systems.
  • Willingness to learn, adapt, and continuously improve.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; overtime may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Abrade surfaces to remove scale, paint, grease, and dirt.
  • Prep work surfaces with masking film, tape, and rubber.
  • Read blueprints and work orders; interpret specs.
  • Operate bead blast equipment and load parts safely.
  • Inspect finished pieces for conformance to specs.
  • Perform daily housekeeping of blast area and equipment.
  • Operate a forklift safely and as needed.
  • Support supervisor with additional duties.

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are seeking a reliable and eager candidate to fill our Finishing Tech position. The Finishing Tech operator/deburr prepares all materials and parts for the necessary operations (weld, grind/polish, and media blast). Uses grinders, pneumatic sanding tools, saws, and welding machines from time to time. Performs a variety of tasks in the fabricating department. Proficient operating forklift, overhead hoist, and media blast.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Abrade surfaces of metal to remove any scale, paint, grease, tar, rust, and dirt.
  • Be responsible for prepping work surfaces with masking film, tape, and rubber.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and work orders.
  • Shovel or pour abrasives into machine hopper or reclaimer.
  • Perform safe loading of parts on racks, pallets, or mats inside the blast booth.
  • Turn valves on equipment to regulate pressure and composition of abrasive mixture flowing through the nozzle.
  • Safely and efficiently set up and operate bead blast machine.
  • Examine finished pieces for proper conformance to specifications.
  • Perform daily checks and housekeeping of blast booth and corresponding work area.
  • Operate a forklift safely.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or team lead.
Qualifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma / Equivalency preferred.
  • 2 years’ experience in metal fabrication required.
  • Basic ability to read and interpret blueprints, tape measure.
  • Basic ability to use computer systems
  • Learns quickly when facing new problems; open to change; strives for continuous improvement of self and processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to convey information and ideas.
  • Must be able to work overtime including some weekends when workload requires this.

Pre-Employment Verifications: Must satisfactorily pass background check, and post-offer drug screen, physical and agility test prior to employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate. The employee is frequently required to stand, sit, kneel, crawl and climb. The employee occasionally works at heights and is frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision. The work environment includes manufacturing. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. Travel in a car or plane is not usually required but may on rare occasions.
