Job summary

Northwell is seeking a Financial Counselor to advise admitted patients on financial responsibilities and self-payments. You will process payments, issue receipts, and maintain a collection log.

Key duties include interviewing patients for financial/insurance information, verifying insurance, and assisting with FAU applications. You will also set up payment plans and follow up on payments as part of the daily workflow.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• 1-3 years of relevant experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Interviews patients to obtain necessary financial and insurance information.
• Verifies patients' insurance and collects additional insurance such as No Fault and Workers Compensation.
• Performs financial assessment of patients; refers potential Medicaid cases to Medicaid Investigator.
• Gathers documentation and assists in the FAU application process.
• Assists patients and/or families in resolving hospital bills; counsels patients on payment responsibilities.
• Establishes patients' pro-rated financial obligations and sets up payment arrangements.
• Follows up on scheduled payments via mail and telephone.
• Processes applications for Section 1011 when applicable.
• Maintains daily work log of payments collected.

• Follows up on scheduled payments via mail and telephone.
• Processes applications for Section 1011, where applicable.
• Maintains daily work log of payments collected.
