Job summary

Fordham University in New York is seeking a Financial Services Representative/Counselor to advise students and families on financial aid options and payment plans, delivering high-quality customer service.

Reporting to the Campus Director, the role supports administration of financial aid, packaging, and financing options, with emphasis on individualized attention and student success across Fordham's campuses.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Minimum three years' diverse experience in financial aid administration or related field.
  • Experience in customer-oriented or consumer credit financing.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and financial aid software.

Responsibilities

  • Advises families and students on how to pay for a university education, including all sources of assistance and the delivery system for financial aid.
  • Develops and formulates individual payment plans, monthly payment plans, and alternative loan options.
  • Monitors student progress through the payment process.
  • Assists in counseling students and parents, processing of applications, packaging, and use of financing options.
  • Assists in awarding, adjusting and reconciling Federal Work Study funds as per regulations.
  • Performs other financial services procedures and programs as assigned.

Title of Position

Reporting to the Campus Director, the Financial Services Representative/Counselor counsels’ students and families regarding all aspects of financial aid and payment options through various communication means such as in person, by telephone, by email, etc. Provides administrative effectiveness and financial aid services through an emphasis on individual attention to students and high-quality customer service.

Essential Functions
  • Advises families and students on how to pay for a university education, including all sources of assistance and the delivery system for financial aid.
  • Takes responsibility for the marketing and formulation of individual payment plans, i.e. monthly payment plans and alternative loan options.
  • Works with enrolled students to monitor progress through the payment process.
  • Serves in all areas of financial services and financial aid administration, including but not limited to the counseling of students and parents, processing of applications, packaging, and facilitating the use of financing options.
  • Assists in the awarding. adjusting and reconciliation of Federal Work Study funds in accordance with federal regulations and institutional policies.
  • Administers specified financial services procedures and programs as assigned.

Additional Functions
  • Supports compliance with procedures for all programs.
  • Assists with the development of computer programs and reports to support functions, as well as implementing and testing of updated software.
  • Interacts with other University offices.
  • Performs Financial Aid, Financing, and Admission presentations
  • Participates in professional development workshops.
  • May be required to work at other Fordham campuses.
Required Qualifications: Education and Experience

High School Degree or equivalent.

Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.

Demonstrated excellence in customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Minimum three years' diverse experience in either financial aid administration or related field.
  • Experience in customer-oriented or consumer credit financing.

Minimum Starting Salary $55,000
