Job summary

JCW Group is seeking an Accounting Manager to join its finance team in Manhattan. The role oversees monthly, quarterly, and annual close, with direct exposure to senior finance leadership and a focus on statutory and GAAP reporting for a national insurer.

You will supervise a team of staff and senior accountants, partner with actuarial, underwriting, claims, and treasury, and support external audits and regulatory exams while strengthening internal controls and SOX/MAR compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA strongly preferred.
• 5+ years accounting experience with 3+ years in P&C insurance.
• Strong knowledge of statutory accounting principles and US GAAP.
• Experience with reinsurance accounting and loss reserve reporting.
• Supervisory or team lead experience.
• Advanced Excel; ERP systems (Oracle, SAP, Workday) experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close with journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals.
• Prepare statutory and GAAP financial statements and supporting schedules.
• Coordinate with actuarial, underwriting, claims, and treasury teams for accurate reporting.
• Support external audits and regulatory exams as main audit contact.
• Maintain internal controls including SOX/MAR compliance.
• Supervise, develop, and mentor staff and senior accountants.
• Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve close efficiency.

JCW is currently partnered with a leading property and casualty insurer with a national footprint looking for an Accounting Manager to join its finance team. This is a high-visibility role overseeing key parts of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, with direct exposure to senior finance leadership. It’s a great fit for someone with insurance accounting experience who’s ready to lead a team and take ownership of statutory and GAAP reporting. This role is on-site in the firm's Manhattan office.

Responsibilities

• Manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close, including review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and accruals
• Prepare and review statutory and GAAP financial statements, including the Annual and Quarterly Statements and supporting schedules
• Partner with actuarial, underwriting, claims, and treasury teams to ensure accurate reporting
• Support external audits and regulatory exams, serving as a key point of contact for auditors
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls, including SOX/MAR compliance
• Supervise, develop, and mentor a team of staff and senior accountants
• Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve close efficiency
