Build the forward-looking financial planning and decision-support function behind a growing construction business. As the FP&A Manager, you will report directly to the CFO and own budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, scenario analysis, management reporting, and financial modeling across 3C Industries. You will translate project-level operating data, backlog, billing expectations, margin projections, and corporate cost assumptions into an integrated company-wide financial outlook for the CFO, CEO, and executive leadership. This role will partner closely with Project Accounting, Operations, and department leaders to improve forecast accuracy, strengthen cash visibility, identify risks and opportunities, and provide timely analysis that supports strategic and operational decision-making.
This role is based out of our Urbana, OH office and has a 2-day a week work from home hybrid schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Own Annual Budgeting & Planning: Lead the annual budgeting process across operating and corporate functions, coordinating assumptions for revenue, gross profit, overhead, headcount, capital spending, and other key financial drivers.
- Maintain Rolling Financial Forecasts: Develop and continuously update rolling forecasts for revenue, gross profit, EBITDA, operating expenses, headcount, and other key business metrics, incorporating current project and operating assumptions.
- Build Integrated Cash Flow Forecasting: Develop and maintain short-term and long-range cash flow models that connect projected billings and collections with job costs, payroll, overhead, capital expenditures, debt activity, taxes, and other significant cash requirements.
- Lead Scenario & Sensitivity Analysis: Model base, upside, downside, and ad hoc scenarios to quantify the financial and cash impact of changes in revenue timing, project margins, backlog conversion, collections, hiring, capital investment, and other business assumptions.
- Consolidate Project-Level Forecasts: Partner with Project Accounting and Operations to incorporate monthly project billing, cash flow, cost-to-complete, margin, schedule, and backlog projections into the company-wide forecast while challenging material assumptions and inconsistencies.
- Deliver Executive & Management Reporting: Prepare clear, timely reporting for the CFO, CEO, and leadership team, including forecast updates, cash outlooks, KPI dashboards, trend analysis, and concise explanations of material changes, risks, and opportunities.
- Analyze Performance & Variances: Evaluate actual results against budget, forecast, prior periods, and operational expectations; identify key business drivers and translate findings into actionable recommendations for Finance and Operations leaders.
- Support Strategic & Long-Range Planning: Develop multi-year financial models and analyses to support growth planning, geographic expansion, entity or business-line decisions, major hiring plans, capital investments, and other strategic initiatives.
- Analyze Backlog, Pipeline & Revenue Conversion: Evaluate backlog quality, project timing, award pipeline, burn rates, and expected revenue conversion to improve visibility into future workload, revenue, margin, and cash generation.
- Partner on Job & Margin Analytics: Work with Project Accounting and Operations to identify margin trends, forecast changes, project risks and opportunities, and portfolio-level performance patterns that could affect company results.
- Develop KPI & Business Intelligence Reporting: Establish and maintain recurring financial and operational dashboards that provide leadership with consistent visibility into performance, leading indicators, forecast accuracy, working capital, and other critical measures.
- Improve Forecasting Systems & Processes: Leverage CMiC, Excel, reporting tools, and standardized processes to reduce manual work, improve data quality, increase forecasting speed, and create scalable planning and reporting capabilities.
- Serve as a Finance Business Partner: Build strong relationships with Project Accounting, Operations, Payroll & Compliance, and department leaders to improve the quality and timeliness of financial inputs and strengthen financial accountability across the organization.
- Support Ad Hoc Decision Analysis: Respond to executive and CFO requests with timely financial modeling and analysis related to pricing, staffing, project timing, investments, cost structure, cash management, and other business decisions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field
- 5-10 years of progressive FP&A, financial analysis, corporate finance, or closely related experience Construction industry experience strongly preferred, including familiarity with job costing, WIP, progress billings, retainage, backlog, cost-to-complete forecasting, and project cash flow
- Demonstrated ownership of annual budgeting, rolling forecasts, cash flow forecasting, and scenario or sensitivity analysis
- Strong financial modeling skills with the ability to connect operating assumptions to the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement
- Advanced Excel skills required; experience with ERP, reporting, business intelligence, or planning systems strongly preferred
- Experience with CMiC or another construction-focused ERP system preferred
- Strong analytical judgment with the ability to challenge assumptions, identify trends, and communicate the financial implications of operational decisions
- Strong executive communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information clearly and concisely to senior leadership
- Ability to work cross-functionally with Accounting, Operations, and project teams while maintaining ownership of deadlines and deliverables
- High level of initiative, organization, attention to detail, and comfort operating in a fast-growing, deadline-driven environment
- CPA, CMA, MBA, or other relevant professional credential s are a plus but not required
