Job description

Steptoe LLP seeks an associate with 3–5 years of experience advising on securities regulatory matters to join the Firm’s Financial Innovation & Regulation practice, part of the Government Affairs and Public Policy group, in our Washington, DC or New York office.

The ideal candidate will have experience counseling clients on securities laws and regulations, including matters involving broker-dealers, investment advisers, private funds, trading platforms, and other financial services firms. Experience with SEC and FINRA regulatory requirements, securities compliance, registrations, examinations, SEC or FINRA enforcement, and transactional or product-related regulatory analysis is preferred. Candidates should also have experience advising on securities-related digital asset matters, including tokenization, and familiarity with the application of federal securities laws to digital asset products, platforms, and transactions. Prior law firm experience is strongly preferred.

This role offers the opportunity to advise clients on a broad range of securities regulatory and digital asset matters, develop practical and sophisticated regulatory counseling skills, and assume increasing responsibility through close collaboration with partners over time.

Candidates must have excellent academic credentials and strong writing and analytical skills. A Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school is required, along with admission to the New York or DC Bar, active and in good standing.

We offer competitive compensation and excellent benefits in a collegial environment that emphasizes training and mentorship. The anticipated salary range is $260,000 to $365,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on the applicant’s experience and qualifications, as well as other job-related factors, including but not limited to relevant skills, education, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, geographic location.
