The Financial Examiner IV position serves an integral function within the Provider Finance Department (PFD) by performing highly-complex (senior-level) financial examinations of Medicaid and non-Medicaid cost reports. The examinations are conducted to ensure the accuracy and reasonableness of cost and statistical data that is utilized to support established reimbursement rate methodologies and cost determination for certain Medicaid and non-Medicaid services.
As a team member of the PFD Cost Report Review Unit (CRRU), the Financial Examiner IV position conducts financial examinations of cost reports in accordance with the Texas Administrative Code, program specific cost report instructions, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), which are those principles approved by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and state and federal regulations.
Financial examination includes reviewing certain Medicaid and non-Medicaid contracted providers’ submitted cost reports and supporting documentation, which may include the contracted providers’ trial balance, general ledger, allocation worksheets, payroll, and billing reports. The Financial examiner may contact the contracted provider to request clarification and additional information/supporting documentation, as applicable. The examination process involves the following activities: planning, scheduling, coordinating, conducting, and reporting results of the cost report examination. Work is performed with limited supervision and considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Candidates certified as a CPA, CIA, CGAP, CIGA, CFE, and/or CISA are preferred.
This position will be required to work in office twice a week at the North Austin Complex.
