The Financial Examiner III position serves an integral function within the Provider Finance Department (PFD) by performing moderately complex (journey-level) financial examinations of cost reports. Financial examiner III positions may also review financial compliance reports.
The examinations are conducted to ensure the accuracy and reasonableness of cost and statistical data that is utilized to support established reimbursement rate methodologies, cost determination, and payment adequacy evaluations for certain Medicaid and non-Medicaid services. Financial examinations are performed in accordance with the Texas Administrative Code, program specific cost report instructions, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and state and federal regulations.
A financial examination includes reviewing certain Medicaid and non-Medicaid contracted providers’ submitted reports and supporting documentation, which may include the contracted providers’ trial balance, general ledger, allocation worksheets, payroll data, and other documentation. The Financial Examiner may contact the contracted provider to request clarification and additional information/supporting documentation, as applicable.
