Job description

EastRidge Health System, a respected, mission-driven behavioral healthcare organization, is seeking a Director of Finance to lead its financial, accounting, and business office functions. With an annual budget of approximately $10 million, this is an opportunity for an experienced behavioral healthcare finance professional to assume meaningful responsibility for the organization’s financial operations and serve as a trusted resource to the CEO, leadership team, and Board of Directors.

EastRidge Health Systems is a nonprofit comprehensive behavioral health center providing mental health, substance use, and intellectual and developmental disability services to children, adults, and families across the eastern panhandle of West Virginia (https://www.eastridgehealthsystems.org/). As a state designated Comprehensive Behavioral Health Center, EastRidge offers a broad continuum of community-based care, including outpatient treatment, psychiatric services, crisis response, medication-assisted treatment, case management, psychiatric rehabilitation, peer and family support, and services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

EastRidge is positioning itself for its next phase of growth through the pursuit of Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) status. The organization has applied for a federal CCBHC grant, with awards expected in November, and, if selected, plans to pursue available CCBHC demonstration funding through the State of West Virginia. This transition would support a significant expansion and enhancement of EastRidge’s service continuum, including greater access to integrated mental health and substance use treatment, crisis services, care coordination, and other comprehensive community-based supports.

This is a hands-on Director-level position designed for a strong financial professional who is ready to lead the organization’s finance function.

The Opportunity

The Director of Finance will:

  • Lead the organization’s accounting, finance, and business office functions.
  • Oversee accurate and timely financial statements, reporting, reconciliations, and accounting records.
  • Coordinate the annual budgeting process and provide meaningful budget-to-actual reporting and financial analysis.
  • Monitor cash flow, receivables, payables, and overall financial performance.
  • Maintain effective accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Oversee the financial aspects of HUD projects, grants, contracts, and other funding sources.
  • Coordinate the annual financial audit and required financial reporting.
  • Provide practical financial information and guidance to the CEO and leadership team.
  • Participate as a member of the senior management team and serve as the staff representative to the Board’s Finance Committee.
  • Attend Board meetings and present or explain financial information as appropriate.Work collaboratively with program and administrative leaders to help them understand financial performance and effectively manage their budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting requirements and behavioral healthcare reimbursement and funding requirements.
  • Remain sufficiently hands-on to personally perform or directly oversee important accounting and finance functions.
The Candidate

The ideal candidate will be an experienced behavioral healthcare finance professional who combines strong accounting and financial management skills with sound judgment, practical business sense, and a willingness to be hands‑on.

Required qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a closely related field.
  • 5–7 years of progressively responsible experience in finance and accounting.
  • Demonstrated professional experience in behavioral healthcare is required. Experience in other healthcare, nonprofit, human services, or similarly regulated environments is also valuable.
  • Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, cash management, internal controls, and audit coordination.
  • Experience supervising or providing leadership to accounting or business-office staff.
  • Strong Excel and financial/accounting systems skills.
  • Ability to analyze financial information and communicate it clearly to both financial and non‑financial audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Familiarity with behavioral healthcare reimbursement, funding sources, and regulatory requirements is highly desirable.
  • Experience with HUD programs, government contracts, grants, or other restricted funding is a plus.

CPA or Master’s degree is preferred but not required. The organization places greater value on demonstrated financial competence, behavioral healthcare experience, sound judgment, and the ability to effectively manage the organization’s financial function.

Why This Opportunity?
