Job summary

Holy Cross Health in Maryland is seeking a Financial Counselor to act as a patient advocate on billing issues and guide patients through the financial assistance process, clearly explaining financing options for needed care.

The role requires bilingual English and Spanish, strong analytical and auditing skills, experience in accounting and medical claims, and proficiency with Windows, Word and Excel. Day shift, full-time with competitive salary and benefits.

Qualifications

• High school graduate with 3+ years in accounting and medical claims management (preferably in hospital/physician setting).
• Bilingual English and Spanish required.
• Knowledge of Medicaid/Medicare and programs aiding the uninsured.

Responsibilities

• Provide financial assistance information and applications with clear guidance.
• Receive, assess, and follow up on application completeness and needed documents.
• Resolve patient billing concerns via phone, mail, or in person.
• Process credit card payments and reconcile per accounting procedures.
• Interpret clinical data to determine program eligibility; audit and reconcile accounts.

• Serve as a patient advocate on billing issues byassistingthe patients in finding the best way to finance their healthcare.Steward thehospitalslimited community benefit resources by implementing the financialassistancepolicy with fairness and accuracy.

Responsibilities

• ProvideHCHfinancialassistanceapplication withgoodexplanation of how to complete it. Receive applications and check for completeness.Requestadditionaldocuments from patients when necessary.Follow up withpatientregardingwhat’spending.
• Resolve patient’s billing concerns via the telephone, correspondence, or in-person
• Investigate problems and complaints, and initiate resolution in a professional and efficient manner.
• Process credit card payments for various hospital departments and record transactions asindicatedby accounting department procedures.
• Able to interpret clinical data sufficiently todetermineeligibility for various programs.
• Mustpossessexcellent auditing and analytical skills for reconciliation of accounts.
• Able to interpret, read, and work from computer reports, and spread sheets.

What you will need

• High school graduatepossessingthree (3)years experiencein accounting and medical claims management, preferably in a hospital or physician’s office setting.
• Must be bilingual English and Spanish.
• Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
• Thorough understanding of Medicaid, Medicare and other programs that canassistthe uninsured in paying for their healthcare services.Interact with the uninsured and acts as a liaison for the hospital.
• Proficiencywith Windows,Word& Excel.
• Excellent verbal and written skills with the ability to articulate information in a clear and concisemanner.

Pay Range

$18.78 - $26.29

Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.

FT/PT Benefit eligible Roles

0.5 FTE (20 hours weekly) up to 1.0 FTE (40 hours weekly)
