Job summary

Holy Cross Health in Maryland is hiring a Financial Counselor to assist patients with billing and financing options. The role focuses on applying financial assistance policies fairly and accurately, following up on incomplete applications, and resolving billing concerns by phone, mail, or in person.

The ideal candidate will be bilingual (English/Spanish), with strong accounting/claims management experience, proficiency in Windows, Word and Excel, and the ability to interpret clinical data to

Responsibilities

• Serve as a patient advocate on billing issues and assist financing of care.
• Process financial assistance applications and request missing documents.
• Resolve billing concerns via phone, letter, or in person.
• Interpret clinical data to determine program eligibility.
• Audit and reconcile patient accounts with attention to accuracy.

Description:

• Serve as a patient advocate on billing issues byassistingthe patients in finding the best way to finance their healthcare.Steward thehospitalslimited community benefit resources by implementing the financialassistancepolicy with fairness and accuracy.

Responsibilities:

• ProvideHCHfinancialassistanceapplication withgoodexplanation of how to complete it. Receive applications and check for completeness.Requestadditionaldocuments from patients when necessary.Follow up withpatientregardingwhat’spending.

• Resolve patient’s billing concerns via the telephone, correspondence, or in-person

• Investigate problems and complaints, and initiate resolution in a professional and efficient manner.

• Process credit card payments for various hospital departments and record transactions asindicatedby accounting department procedures.

• Able to interpret clinical data sufficiently todetermineeligibility for various programs.

• Mustpossessexcellent auditing and analytical skills for reconciliation of accounts.

• Able to interpret, read, and work from computer reports, and spread sheets.

What you will need:

• High school graduatepossessingthree (3)years experiencein accounting and medical claims management, preferably in a hospital or physician’s office setting.

• Must be bilingual English and Spanish.

• Knowledge of basic medical terminology.

• Thorough understanding of Medicaid, Medicare and other programs that canassistthe uninsured in paying for their healthcare services.Interact with the uninsured and acts as a liaison for the hospital.

• Proficiencywith Windows,Word& Excel.

• Excellent verbal and written skills with the ability to articulate information in a clear and concisemanner.

Pay Range: $18.78 - $26.29

Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
