Wellstone Regional Hospital in Jeffersonville, Indiana is seeking an experienced Financial Counselor for its Business Office. The role focuses on verifying insurance, determining patients' out-of-pocket responsibilities, and collecting at the time of service.
You will assess eligibility for charity, screen for Medicaid, prepare promissory notes, contact patients with balances, and establish payment arrangements.
Wellstone Regional Hospital is a 100-bed acute care facility located in Jeffersonville, Indiana and has been providing quality health care to the residents of Southern Indiana and the Louisville area since 2003. Wellstone specializes in the treatment of Adolescents, Children, Adults, and the CD population. In addition to our in-patient services, we offer out-patient programs as well. Wellstone is currently recruting for an experienced Financial Counselor for our Business Office.
The Financial Counselor role consists of verifying insurance, determining patients out of pocket due, updating host system with corrected information, and upfront collecting at time of service. Tasks include determining if patient qualifies for possible discount (charity) by conducting financial assessments, and screening uninsured patients for Medicaid eligibility. Other tasks include creating Promissory notes, contacting patients/responsible party with outstanding balances, requesting payments, accepting payments, establishing payment arrangements, and updating returned addresses.
Education/Licensure: High School graduate or equivalent required, Associate's Degree preferred.
Experience: Three years of healthcare reimbursement and third-party billing experience; Experience in collections from their party payers and financial counseling.
Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm
Additional Requirements: May be required to work flexible hours and occasional overtime; Excellent verbal and written communications skills are required; Must have an elevated level of interpersonal skills. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, professionalism, tact, and diplomacy; Moderate computer systems and software proficiency demonstrated knowledge of day-to-day clerical and hospital procedures;Exhibits excellent customer service relation skills as evidenced by supportive and constructive communication.
