Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Orthopedic and Spine Hospital – Arlington is seeking a Full Time Financial Counselor to assist surgical patients with estimated financial responsibility. You will verify insurance, review financial assistance applications, and establish appropriate payment plans in collaboration with the Business Office.

The role requires strong Excel/data entry skills, confidentiality, and experience with EHR systems, ICD10, and CPT coding.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to work with data entries in Excel and maintain accuracy.
  • Ability to understand and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Experience using an Electronic Health Care Record (EHR) system for documentation.
  • Knowledge of ICD10 and CPT coding.

Responsibilities

  • Provide financial counseling for estimated patient responsibility on surgical patients.
  • Verify insurance benefits and review financial assistance applications.
  • Determine funds to collect at admission and arrange suitable payment plans.
  • Notify patients of monies due and document in PAS system.
  • Notate PAS with benefits and financial information; maintain relationships with staff.
  • Review authorization requirements to ensure timely service.

Financial Counselor at Baylor Scott & White Orthopedic and Spine Hospital – Arlington:

Provides Financial counseling for estimated patient responsibility on surgical patients for Baylor Scott & White Orthopedic and Spine Hospital. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Review information from the patient’s file on system.
  • Verify insurance benefits
  • Review financial assistance applications
  • Determine what funds to collect upon admission and established suitable payment arrangements according to policy.
  • Notify patients of monies due and document in PAS system.
  • Notate PAS system with benefits and financial information.
  • Maintaining positive relationships with other personnel.
  • Review authorization requirements, ensuring all authorizations are complete prior to services being rendered.
  • Answer incoming patient calls.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor, and Business Office Manager.
Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Required Experience:

  • Ability to work well in excel and manage data entries.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to understand the need for confidentiality in the work assigned to you.
  • Ability to utilize Electronic Health Care Record system for documentation to patients account/record.
  • ICD10 and CPT knowledge
  • Complete understanding of insurance primacy rules.
