Job summary

HHM Talent is assisting a client in Rossville, Georgia, seeking an experienced Controller to oversee day-to-day accounting operations for a construction-focused company. The role will manage financial reporting, WIP schedules, job costing, and project profitability analysis.

You will lead the accounting team, ensure accurate month-end close, maintain internal controls, and collaborate with project managers on budgets and forecasts. A CPA/CMA and GAAP expertise are preferred.

Qualifications

• At least five years of progressive accounting experience in a construction or project-based environment.
• Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP reporting, percentage-of-completion accounting, and project profitability analysis.
• GAAP knowledge, financial reporting, and month-end close; CPA or CMA designation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily accounting operations: accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll oversight.
• Manage month-end and year-end close with timely, accurate financial statements and reconciliations.
• Prepare and maintain WIP schedules, including percent‑complete calculations, revenue recognition, and overbillings/underbillings.
• Oversee job costing across construction and fabrication projects; allocate labor, materials, equipment, and overhead.
• Partner with project managers to review budgets, costs to complete, change orders, and project profitability.
• Manage cash flow forecasting, customer billing, collections, retainage, and vendor payment planning.
• Support budgeting/forecasting; analyze variances and communicate results to leadership.
• Maintain internal controls and improve accounting processes for accuracy and efficiency.
• Oversee inventory and fixed asset accounting related to fabrication operations.
• Coordinate with external accountants on tax filings, audits, and year-end reporting.
• Lead and develop accounting staff with clear responsibilities and deadlines.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• Experience in construction or manufacturing
• Familiarity with Sage, ComputerEase, or similar construction accounting software
