Build the financial foundation of a fast-scaling climate tech company

Team Size: ~50 globally

EVenergi (now BetterFleet) streamlines the transition to zero-emission vehicles with intelligent software solutions that enable agencies to plan and manage fleets with a simplified, data-driven approach. The BetterFleet platform offers robust energy modeling capabilities that help fleet operators make informed decisions about electrifying depots, optimizing charging schedules, and reducing the cost of transitioning to zero emissions. BetterFleet is part of EVenergi, a global leader in planning, procurement, implementation and operations software for zero-emission fleets and infrastructure. Founded in 2016 in Sydney, Australia, the company has expanded to serve over 200 complex fleets, with offices in the US, Canada, and UK.

Mission for the Role

To build and own the financial operations backbone of BetterFleet as we scale globally. The Financial Controller will ensure rigorous financial hygiene, timely reporting, budget control, lender and grant compliance, and seamless multi-jurisdictional execution across external providers. This role supports executive decision-making while enabling operational scale.

What You'll Achieve

In your first 12–18 months, your impact will be felt across the business as you establish and lead a robust, reliable financial backbone. You’ll:

• Drive timely and accurate financial operations across multiple global entities, ensuring monthly closes are completed within five business days and without material errors
• Deliver clear, consistent reporting for leadership and the board—including monthly P&L, balance sheet, and variance reports—with high forecast accuracy
• Lead the company’s annual budgeting process and implement a rolling 12-month reforecasting rhythm in collaboration with department heads
• Manage and hold accountable external finance vendors (bookkeepers, tax agents, and payroll providers) across the US, UK, Australia, and Canada
• Own and streamline our financial tool stack—Xero, Joiin, Syft, Rippling, and Airwallex—ensuring integration, reliability, and ease of use
• Prepare and deliver timely lender and investor reporting, including monthly and quarterly updates
• Support strategic decisions with on-demand analysis for the CEO and board—delivered fast, with insight
• Lead the successful submission of R&D grants (especially AusIndustry), ensuring full compliance and maximising funding opportunities

Who Will Thrive in This Role

• Detail-Oriented Executor – Brings structure and rigor, even under pressure
• SaaS Financial Strategist – Understands ARR, MRR, burn multiples, SaaS KPIs
• Global Operator – Confident managing tax, payroll, and compliance across AU/UK/US/CA
• Vendor Manager – Leads outsourced bookkeeping, tax, payroll, and finance support
• Reporting Rhythm Owner – Owns finance calendar (weekly cash, monthly close, quarterly board and lender updates)
• Systems Fluent – Comfortable with Xero, Joiin, Syft, Rippling, Airwallex, Slack, and Sheets
• Trusted Business Partner – Proactive communicator, supports leadership with insight (not just data)
• 5+ years in financial controller or senior finance roles, ideally in high-growth SaaS or recurring revenue businesses
• Experience managing multi-entity accounting across jurisdictions and currencies
• Direct experience overseeing outsourced finance vendors
• Strong familiarity with tools: Xero, Joiin, Syft, Rippling, Google Sheets, Slack
• Bonus: exposure to R&D grant programs (e.g. AusIndustry) or clean tech incentives
