Job description

$225,000 to $250,000 Base Salary + 15% to 25% Target Bonus

The Opportunity

We are working with a highly capitalized, Austin based clean energy company that is changing how zero carbon baseload power reaches the industrial sector. They are building out complex, capital intensive energy projects and need a Financial Controller to step in and build their accounting infrastructure from the ground up.

By taking this title, you distinguish the role from their direct marketing while accurately reflecting the seniority. This is a rare chance to guide a disruptive, well funded company through its most critical phase of commercial scaling and public market preparation.

Your Impact

Reporting directly to the executive leadership team, you will take complete ownership of the accounting function in a lean, fast paced environment. Key responsibilities include:

  • Accounting Leadership: Owning the full accounting close process, month end reporting, and maintaining the chart of accounts and accounting policies.
  • Systems & ERP: Administering and optimizing NetSuite, ensuring the system is configured to scale seamlessly with rapid project activity.
  • Project Accounting: Managing strict procurement controls, corporate expenses, and complex project job costing to support heavy project financing and bonding requests.
  • Audit & Compliance: Managing relationships with external auditors and regulatory bodies, ensuring audit ready documentation is always in place to support PCAOB level audits.
  • Team Building: Hiring, mentoring, and developing a high performing team of staff and project accountants.
The Profile

We are looking for a technical financial leader and active CPA who knows exactly what it takes to build robust controls within a fast growing, heavily regulated environment.

  • Experience & Credentials: 10 plus years of progressive accounting experience, with at least two years sitting as a Controller or Assistant Controller within a publicly traded company. You must hold an active CPA license (in Texas or willing to obtain reciprocity).
  • Systems Mastery: Deep, hands on NetSuite expertise is required. You must have configured, optimized, and scaled NetSuite in a prior role.
  • Project & Capital Accounting: A strong understanding of construction or heavy capital project accounting, including budget management and committed costs. Experience in energy, defense, or other highly regulated sectors is a major plus.
  • Compliance: Proven experience building SOX control systems and supporting PCAOB level audits in a lean or startup environment.
  • Culture Driver: This role requires you to be fully on site five days a week at the Austin headquarters to drive cross functional success.
The Reward
  • $225,000 to $250,000 base salary.
  • 15% to 25% performance based target bonus.
  • A massive career trajectory and the chance to leave a lasting mark on the energy transition.
