Qualifications

Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Financial Assistance Coordinator is a full-time position in the Standing With Our Neighbors™ Program (“SWON”) . Standing With Our Neighbors is a part of the Safe and Stable Homes project that addresses housing instability for families residing in geographic areas at the heart of the City of Atlanta’s Neighborhood Reinvestment Initiative and Atlanta Public Schools attendance zones. AVLF is devoting considerable volunteer resources to improving living conditions and housing stability in the target neighborhoods to reduce student enrollment turnover and enhance student attendance and performance. SWON focuses on outreach and tenant education, close coordination with community partners, advocacy, and direct legal representation of tenants. Specifically, AVLF’s legal advocacy aims to halt evictions and resolve underlying issues – including heading off evictions before they are filed, forcing repair of deplorable conditions, preserving housing subsidies, and/or securing compensation for lost property and other damages. Clients access legal services through AVLF’s existing programs and clinics.

The Financial Assistance Coordinator will play a key role in the administration of SWON’s emergency financial assistance program and will be a vital contributor to advancing SWON’s strategic goals. Reporting to the Director, this position is responsible for reviewing financial assistance requests, ensuring required documentation is complete and accurate, coordinating the approval and payment process, maintaining program records, and supporting grant compliance, reconciliation, and reporting requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Program Implementation

  • Support the Director in the administration and management of emergency financial assistance programs.
  • Approve emergency financial assistance requests provided by SWON staff.
  • Review financial assistance requests submitted by SWON staff to ensure they meet established program guidelines, eligibility requirements, and applicable funding restrictions.
  • Verify requests include complete and appropriate supporting documentation before advancing them through the approval and payment process.
  • Coordinate with SWON staff to obtain missing information, resolve discrepancies, and address questions related to financial assistance requests.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of financial assistance requests, approvals, payments, and client services.
  • Track the status of financial assistance requests and help ensure requests are processed accurately and within established timelines.
  • Coordinate with appropriate AVLF staff and departments to facilitate final approval and payment of approved financial assistance.
  • Help ensure financial assistance is administered consistently and in accordance with AVLF policies, program procedures, and funder requirements.

Grant, Reporting and Administrative Support

  • Maintain documentation necessary to support grant compliance, reporting, financial reconciliation, and audit requirements.
  • Assist with grant-related reporting and ensure the accuracy and completeness of data related to client financial assistance.
  • Work with the Director and appropriate AVLF staff to reconcile financial assistance records and identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Work with the Director to monitor program outcomes, identify trends, and recommend opportunities to improve financial assistance processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance or a related field preferred
  • Three years or more years of experience in financial assistance, grant support or non-profit operations or in a similar role.

Working Conditions:

Fast-paced hybrid work environment requiring the ability to multi-task, prioritize competing responsibilities, and communicate effectively. The position may require travel to and from meetings with clients, community partners, and/or AVLF colleagues. Work may also involve bending and prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
