An established industry player in higher education is seeking a Department Manager for the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences. This pivotal role involves overseeing financial and administrative operations for departments with a diverse faculty and student body. The Department Manager oversees the Departments of English and Philosophy within the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences. This role provides administrative and financial leadership, supporting a combined faculty of 44 ladder rank faculty FTE, 4 staff FTE, up to 7 lecturers, approximately 600 undergraduates, and 110 graduate students, including Teaching Assistantships and Associate In appointments.
The position manages combined operating budgets of approximately $13.8 million and designated/grant budgets of about $360,000, along with annual faculty fellowships. The incumbent's service is vital to advancing the departments’ missions, supporting quality teaching, research, and service, while ensuring compliance with university policies, grant regulations, and ethical standards.
Responsibilities include administering fiscal activities, performing complex budget/resource analyses, reviewing accounting procedures, and recommending process improvements. The role also involves guiding faculty on fiscal policies, contracts, grants, and purchasing, as well as providing quarterly financial reports.
The position manages recruitment, appointments, and re-appointments of non-senate academic personnel, assists with course scheduling, curricular changes, and teaching assignments, and coordinates graduate student recruitment and support. The Financial and Administrative Officer (FAO) reports to the Dean’s office with dotted line reporting to department Chairs.
Additional duties include managing daily departmental operations related to finance, human resources, academic support, facilities, and operational matters. The FAO ensures effective stewardship and support functions aligned with departmental and college goals, contributing to the university’s mission.
This position is part of a Career Ladder recruitment, open at different levels within the classification series. It is currently posted as both a Financial Administrative Officer (Administrative Officer 3) and a (Admin Supervisor 2). Applicants should review both postings to identify the best fit. The salary range is $73,600 - $133,200 annually, with offers based on education, experience, and organizational needs. Applicants must have current work authorization, as sponsorship cannot be provided. All employees must comply with university policies and applicable regulations.
